This jewel-like painting on copper is by Louis de Caullery, one of the many Flemish artists who were attracted to the cityscape of Venice.

The traditional title is unlikely to be correct. The subject is probably the festa della sensa, the Ascension Day feast when the doge symbolically married the sea by casting a ring into the lagoon. There are several versions of the festa della sensa by de Caullery including one in the Bowes Museum.
