Folding fan, the leaf decorated with an etching coloured by hand depicting the English victory at the 1746 Battle of Culloden. Published by Francis Chassereau, a Huguenot fan maker and stationer who operated from the Crown & Fann (sic) near Long Acre, Covent Garden.

Chassereau came to London from France in the company of his parents, around the year 1714. He was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers in 1721. In 1761 – he had by this time retired from the family business – Chassereau was made a Director of the French Hospital and, upon his death, left significant sums of money to his surviving family.
