A heraldic dolphin urinant, which originally was a finial on the roof of the Marine Biological Station on Great Cumbrae, completed in 1897. The Marine Station now operates (since 2014) as the 'Field Studies Council, Millport'. Following the addition of other buildings in the 1930s, the finial was removed from the roof and repositioned at ground level outside the main entrance, on the lawn. In 1990 it was moved indoors to become part of the museum display, where it remains.
