In this painting, the same life models (from Edinburgh College of Art) have been used for more than one character. The female in the painting is the life model, Poppy Lowe, and the bearded elderly gentleman is (Drummer) James Roddick DCM (1848–1928) a former Drummer in the 92nd Gordon Highlanders.
