The painting was definitely executed pre-1933 because the floor shown is tiled and this was replaced with a wooden one in that year. It is likely to have been painted c.1870 when major alterations were carried out and this fireplace was replaced with another – also ancient – fireplace. It is believed that the original fireplace may have been broken in the attempt to move it.
