Roberts toured Egypt in 1838–39 to find exotic oriental subjects to sketch. Lithograph prints were published on his return. This scene shows a typical coffee shop with the owner serving coffee from a large brass pot. Customers sit around, smoke from long pipes and chat or listen to a storyteller.
