The Silver Buffalo award is the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSAs) highest award for distinguished service, in the same way as the Silver Wolf is presented in the UK. The first Silver Buffalo was presented to the Scouts Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, in 1926. He was also presented with this statue which commemorates the actions of the 'unknown scout' who helped publisher William R. Boyce, of Chicago when he became lost in London. Impressed with the Scouts’ good turn Boyce found out more about the Movement and introduced it to the USA. A formal presentation was made by the USA Ambassador on 4 July 1926 with Baden-Powell and HRH the Prince of Wales (in his role as Chief Scout of Wales) receiving the gift.
