Painting depicting a boy cradling a lamb in his arms. He is dressed in a low Karakalpah hat with a black fur brim, a yellow-brown robe, chapar, white shirt, blue trousers and black boots. To his left the white mother of the lamb gazes back and upwards. To his right and behind are the rest of the flock – black, brown and black sheep. Behind them is a mounted shepherd. To the left, behind the boy, is a yurt with yellow-red walls, a door and two brown tent bands, and a domed roof with two sets of three crossed bands. The blue sky is very cloudy, and the ground is multicoloured. Impressionist in style. A rectangular canvas with a stained wooden frame and a white printed label on the bottom right corner. Mounted on a plain wooden frame with triangular hardboard corners.
