Copy of the painting above the fire-place in the so-called Guard-Room, West Stow Hall, Suffolk. Left, a man hawking with two dogs under the inscription "Thus do I all the day" ; next, a young man embracing a girl, under the inscription "Thus do I while I may" ; third, an older man indicating the former couple, under the inscription "Thus did I when I might" ; right, an old man larger than the other figures bearing a crutch, and with a dog, under the inscription "Good Lord, will this world last ever." The background with flower forms : above, a band of heavy ornament, dolphins with scrolled tails between leaf motifs. English, c. 1600. Scale, 5 inches to 1 foot. 2 sheets mounted as one.
