Folding fan, the sticks richly carved and gilt. The leaf is painted in the centre with peasants cavorting in a tavern setting. Possibly derived from a painting by David Teniers the Younger (1610–1690), the subject is supposed to illustrate the perils of excessive alcohol consumption. The background is painted with a trompe l’œil ribbon of luxurious Valenciennes (?) lace.
