The artist explains what he intended to express with this painting in a letter to the RSA of 2006: '…the piece is colourful, warm and vibrant, as in the growth of summer flowers and herbiage. My memories of thunderstorms and accompanying downpours stay with me since I was young, and in awe of Nature – being born and brought up in the countryside, Sutherland had it all – mountains, rivers and/bagpipe, fiddle and accordion music…' George Macpherson, 2006.
