Born in Ireland, the Delaney brothers, Thomas, Jim, and Paddy, moved to Withypool, Exmoor, in the 1940s, where they got to know and work for Munnings as grooms and models.
Munnings witnessed Thomas’s apprentice jockey papers, bought clothes for the boys and would regularly go out onto the moors to paint with them.
The brothers, all became jockeys. Thomas and Jim had numerous winners, competing against the famous jockey Sir Gordon Richards.
