Wilson was commissioned to design a suite of bespoke street furniture for the city centre. His first piece was the 'double-twist bollard' installed at top of Couttie’s Wynd. Its success led to further pieces in Murraygate (1993–1994), High Street (1995), Panmure Street and Cowgate (c.1995–1996). The bollards are based on lily buds from the city’s coats of arms and twists of jute rope.
