This work was inspired by a painting by Richard Caton Woodville featured in the Illustrated London News in September 1914, depicting a mythical 'Stirrup Charge' by the Scots Greys and Black Watch at St. Quentin, 1914. The bronze sculpture depicts a cavalry officer in First World War uniform on horseback at the charge with a kilted Highlander hanging on to his stirrup leather, mounted on a rocky plateau base.
