Born in Aberdeen of Italian parents, Morrocco’s father had come to Scotland and opened an ice cream shop. The family name was in fact ‘Marrocco’ but the sign writer spelt it Morrocco and it stuck. Morrocco studied at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen (1932–1938), where he was taught by James Cowie and Robert Sivell. Morrocco was awarded a Brough Travelling Scholarship and he spent time travelling in France and Switzerland (1939). During the Second World War Morrocco was stationed in Edinburgh and his artistic background was put to use in making false wounds and painting army equipment. In 1950 Morrocco was appointed Head of Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. His work is represented in many major Scottish collections and he exhibited with the Thackeray Gallery from 1977.
