Formerly attributed to Walscapelle and then to Ottmar Elliger, this modest still life is now given to Walscapelle's teacher, Cornelis Kick. The rose drooping on lower right reappears in a painting attributed to Kick, now in a private collection. The somewhat careless handling of the paint also points in his direction.
