Stan Mortensen joined Blackpool Football Club in 1946 as a forward. He was the club’s most successful goal scorer in league games over the next nine seasons, scoring 197 goals. Playing frequently in the English team after 1947, he scored 23 goals for them. Following 12 years with Hull City, from 1955, he returned to Blackpool as the manager in 1967, surviving in that post, despite his popularity, only until 1969.
