The barge carrying the new transformer for the Tan-y-Grisiay Power Station arrived at Porthmadog harbour in 1922 having been brought from Liverpool by two tugboats. It had to be a very high tide, and even then part of the harbour wall needed to be removed for the transformer to be off-loaded onto a 94 wheel trailer. This was the very last commercial use of Portmadog harbour; the continued silting up of the harbour approaches made any further deliveries out of the question. Furthermore, the restored harbour wall and its immediate surroundings have been developed as a recreational area. The transformer design has since been modified so that future replacements can be delivered by road. The painting shows the final docking manoeuvre under the direction of the River Pilot and Harbour Master.
