Inscription description
at the statue's feet: SISTER DORA; towards the foot of the plinth on a bronze plaque: DOROTHY WYNDLOW PATTISON – SISTER DORA / WAS BORN ON 16TH JANUARY, 1832. SHE CAME TO WALSALL IN 1865 / AND FOR THE FOLLOWING THIRTEEN YEARS WORKED CEASELESSLY / TO ESTABLISH A PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL SERVICE IN THE TOWN. / HER GREAT DEVOTION TO THE WORKING PEOPLE OF WALSALL EARNED / HER WIDESPREAD RESPECT. WHEN SHE DIED IN 1878 THOUSANDS / MOURNED HER AND LATER SHE BECAME THE COUNTRY'S FIRST / WOMAN, OTHER THAN A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL FAMILY, TO / BE COMMEMORATED BY A STATUE.; on a plaque at the back of the pedestal: IN 1886 THIS STATUE WAS ORIGINALLY CARVED IN / MARBLE WHICH DETERIORATED DUE TO WEATHERING / OVER A PERIOD OF YEARS. IN 1956 THIS BRONZE / CAST WAS MADE OF THE ORIGINAL MODEL AND / THE COST WAS MET BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION
