Sir William Blackstone, Fellow of All Souls from 1743 until 1762 was the first Vinerian professor of the Laws of England. Between 1765 and 1769 he published in four volumes his commentaries on the Laws of England. This sculpture is notable for its use of contemporary costume rather than the more usual classical costume. Purchased at a cost of 430 guineas.
