Born in Florence, Rogers trained at London's Architectural Association and Yale University. In 1963 he was one of the architectural practice Team 4, with Norman Foster, Wendy Cheesman and Su Rogers, whose work included the factory for Reliance Controls Ltd, Swindon in 1967. He gained international recognition, with Renzo Piano, for the design of the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris from 1971 to 1977. His other designs include Lloyd's Building, London in 1986, European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg from 1989 to 1995, Millennium Dome, Greenwich in 2000 and Maggie's Centre, London, which was awarded the Stirling Prize 2009. He was the 2007 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate, and received a lifetime achievement at the 2006 Venice Biennale.
