Sir Richard Lennard, 13th Lord Dacre, was born in April 1596 and died on 18th August 1630. He was the youngest son of Sir Henry Lennard (1570–1616), 12th Lord Dacre, and Chrysogna Baker (1571?–1616).
He married Elizabeth Throckmorton with who he had Francis Lennard (1619–1662), 14th Lord Dacre. After the death of Elizabeth, he married Dorothy North (d.1698), whom Sir Lennard had a son called Richard.
This painting was hung in the family’s dining room at Belhus, together with other family portraits, such as the portrait of Dorothy North (d.1698), Lady Dacre, Richard Lennard’s second wife.
