Sir John Ogilvy was Life Director of Dundee Lunatic Asylum and President of the Board of Directors at Dundee Royal Infirmary (DRI). He was the ninth Baronet Ogilvy of Inverquharity and was the Liberal Member of Parliament for Dundee from 1857 to 1874. This painting was commissioned by the board at DRI to hang in their boardroom.
