This portrait of Herbert Austin is a far cry from the dark and more formal depictions that graced the wall of his factory boardroom. It shows Austin in the earlier days of his career and is by 'Sphinx'. 'Sphinx' was the moniker of Walter Satterlee, a New York artist known for his fine figure painting and this portrait would have been completed towards the end of his lifetime.
