Henry Lennard became the first of the Lennard family to hold the title of Lord Dacre after his mother’s death, Margaret Fynes (1541–1611), 11th Baroness Dacre.
Henry, as well as his father Samson, lived in an extravagant manner. In fact, he was very interested in the contemporary fashion, which forced him to sell some family properties, such as his manor of Northsted in Chelsfield, Kent.
He married Chrysogna Baker (1571?–1616) in 1589 and his youngest son, Richard Lennard, would become 13th Lord Dacre.
Henry’s patriotism led him to take part in the Earl of Essex’s attack and capture of Cadiz.
