Head and shoulders portrait of a man with a beard, wearing a hat with white feathers, brown coat with a white front.

This painting relates to the drawing of the sitter by Holbein in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle. In the catalogue accompanying the Tate exhibition (1998–1999), Karen Hearn posits that the painting 'may be by an artist who had worked with, and even been trained' by Holbein. She also notes that the painting has been cut down into a circular format, and was originally rectangular.
