Burrows was made a Fellow to the Royal College of Physicians in 1832 and served as President from 1871 to 1876. He published a book on 'The Disorders of the Cerebral Circulation' and articles on scarlet fever, measles and haemorrhage in Tweedie's 'Library of Medicine'. Burrows was appointed Physician-Extraordinary to Queen Victoria in 1870 and Physician-in-Ordinary three years later and a baronet in 1874.
