From the research which has been carried out into the meanings within this painting there has been no definitive suggestion about who the painter is on the bottom left corner other than that it likely to be a representation of the artist of the portrait, whoever that may be. The words in the 'speech bubble' are 'TERNITATI PINXIT', thought to be a shortening of 'Ae'ternitati Pinxit', meaning painted for eternity or posterity.

The figure in the bottom right corner is an astrologer pointing at Atlas holding up the globe. The words in that 'speech bubble' are 'TERNITATI FINITII', meaning finished for eternity or posterity.

The two figures are thought to represent Sir Christopher Hatton's interests in art and astrology and possibly also suggest that both artist and astrologer contributed to the completion of the painting.
