Banister Flight Fletcher (1866–1953) was the eldest son of Professor Banister Fletcher, author of 'A History of Comparative Architecture on the Comparative Method for Students, Craftsmen and Amateurs'. He continued his father’s work and the book remains in print today. As an architect he was not particularly distinguished but in public life he was extremely active. He was a member of some 14 professional institutions at home and was a barrister-at-law. His legal experience lead to his presiding over arbitrations and cases involving the London building Acts. He was Chairman of the Greater London Regional Planning Committee 1927–1933. Fletcher was Sheriff of London in 1919, when he was knighted and was a member of many City of London committees.
