Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch was a well-known writer of Cornish origin. He was born at Bodmin, the son of a doctor and was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He often wrote under the pseudonym 'Q' and drew upon his Cornish background in his novels, the first of which 'Dead Man's Rock' was published in 1887. He also edited 'The New Cambridge Shakespeare' in 1921 as well as 'The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250–1918'. He was knighted in 1910.
