This painting is part of an ongoing series of work concentrating on corvids. Corvids are the family of birds that include magpies, ravens, rooks and crows. Bismuth studied medicine before starting to paint full-time in 1986. He regularly exhibits in France and the USA, including the prestigious 'Birds in Art' exhibition organised by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin. His interest in the subject of corvids began a few years ago when a sudden overpopulation of these species in his home region allowed him to develop a wide range of pictorial explorations. He is particularly interested in portraying the character of the birds.
