plaque: WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE / This Coade stone plaque, made in Lambeth, belongs to the ancient Borough of Newcastle-Under-Lyme. / It stood on the front of the famous Newcastle and Potteries Theatre from its building in 1788 to its / demolition in 1963. The Borough has kindly allowed it to be mounted on the New Victoria Theatre. It was unveiled here / by her Royal Highness The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, on 25 November 1987
