This shows a classic nineteenth-century Thames fishing punt, which developed before the punts generally used for pleasure purposes after the 1880s, which no longer included a wet well. Leslie was the owner of a punt and wrote a wonderful book 'Our Thames' that extols the virtues of punting. For some years he rented a property at Wallingford, and compiled books based on letters describing the flora and fauna, and changing seasons, of the Thames.
