The verso of this drawing depicts a similar figure to the recto, although here the head and shoulders are turned in profile to the right. The drawing has particularly illustrious provenance, having once belonged not only to collector Henry Oppenheimer (1859–1932) but also before him the British artist Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723–1792). The recto of this drawing is listed under the same accession number in the Barber Collection.
