An atmospheric, romanticized sketch of a seascape showing the sun low on the horizon. The calm sea occupies one quarter of the picture space with waves indicated by crescents of dark blue paint. The sky is painted as horizontal layers of paint changing from pink close to the water, through yellow close to the sun, to pale blue close to the top. Cloud is indicated by small blocks of colour on the left and right and the sun has been painted in thick impasto. The reflections from the sun sit on the surface of the water in the central foreground. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right verso.
