Emile-August Carolus-Duran
1837–1917
(b Lille, 4 July 1838; d Paris, 18 Feb. 1917). French painter. His early works included peasant scenes influenced by Courbet's Realism, but from about 1870 he concentrated on portraits (particularly of women), becoming a great fashionable success with his slick style.
