Scalloway Castle was built between 1599 and 1604 for Earl Patrick Stewart when Scalloway was the 'capital' of Shetland. It is one of two castles in Shetland and a notable landmark for Scalloway. The castle fell into disrepair after the execution of the Earl in 1615 and is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
