Saint Wilfrid (Bishop) and Saint John Berchmans are the figures represented in this panel alongside a boy acolyte. The panel below illustrates the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Elizabeth. This window formed part of a magnificent scheme commissioned in the 1920s as a First World War memorial for the Lady Chapel of the Convent of Notre Dame, Dowanhill, Glasgow. Typical of Harry Clarke's style, the figures are elegant and attenuated, ornately-clothed and set against a rich background. Dublin-born Harry Clarke (1889–1931) inherited his family's stained glass and church decorating business and played a major role in the arts and craft movement in Ireland. He enjoyed success as a book illustrator as well as a stained glass artist, and was a craftsman of much talent, creating jewel like effects by the use of extensive plating and acid etching.
