One of four wooden statuettes that would have originally been placed in the niches of a wooden font cover. This example represents Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and merchants which is very fitting for the town of Portsmouth where it is displayed. The figure itself shows a man in full ecclesiastic clothing holding a three sail ship.
