Saint Justa, a Christian martyr, is usually paired with Saint Rufina, both patron saints of that city. They were the daughters of a potter who lived there and were martyred for refusing to allow their father's vessels to be used in the worship of Venus. They also destroyed the image of the goddess in the temple. Here Saint Justa is holding two of the jugs and is wearing a beautiful pale mauve, against a plain dark background.

This is an example from the sets of female saints produced by Zurbarán and his studio in Seville in the early 1630s. It was bought by William Bankes (1786–1855) for Kingston Lacy in Spain in 1814.
