inscribed on plinth, side 1: THIS STATUE, WHICH WAS UNVEILED ON NOVEMBER 17, 2012, WAS COMMISSIONED AND FUNDED BY PORT VALE SUPPORTERS AS A TRIBUTE TO THE UNIQUE LINK THE SPROSON FAMILY HAS WITH PORT VALE AND THE SERVICE JESS, ROY AND PHIL HAVE GIVEN TO THE CLUB. Inscribed on plinth, side 2: ROY SPROSON. THROUGH THREE DECADES AS A PLAYER AND CAPTAIN HE MADE A RECORD 837 APPEARANCES FOR PORT VALE AND SCORED 35 GOALS. HE WAS A TRUE LEGEND WHO COMBINED STYLE AND STEEL WITH LOYALTY. THE VERY SPIRIT OF PORT VALE RAN THROUGH THIS UNIQUE MAN WHO ALSO WENT ON TO MANAGE THE CLUB.; inscribed on plinth, side 3: PHIL SPROSON. MADE 495 APPEARANCES FOR PORT VALE AND SCORED 41 GOALS. LIKE ROY HE PLAYED IN THREE PROMOTION-WINNING SIDES AND WAS BOTH CLUB AND TEAM CAPTAIN. HE WAS TWICE VOTED BY FELLOW PROFESSIONALS INTO PFA ALL-STAR TEAMS.; inscribed on plinth, side 4: JESS SPROSON. ELDER BROTHER OF ROY AND FATHER OF PHIL, JESS BEGAN THE FAMILY'S CONNECTION WITH PORT VALE. HE MADE 38 APPEARANCES AND SCORED 1 GOAL BEFORE INJURY ENDED HIS CAREER IN 1947
