The sitter was an undergraduate at Magdalen. He was a student and tutor of politics, Christ Church, Oxford, 1947–1968. He published widely on the Conservative Party, Disraeli, the History of Rhodesia and edited the Oxford Illustrated Encyclopedia, vol.4, and several other works.
