The name 'Robert Jackson, MD' is painted on the front of the frame of this painting. It is a half-length portrait to the left, with the sitter looking at the viewer. He wears a grey wig, white frilled ruff, dark blue jacket with large buttons, in a feigned oval. Comparing this picture with the portrait in Robert Jackson's 'A View of the Formation... Armies', London, Parker Furnival, 1845, where the frontispiece represents him in uniform and unbewigged, a general similarity of mouth and eyes can be observed. The painting could represent the same man: he was MD Leiden, physician in Stockton-on-Tees, surgeon and Inspector-General of Army Hospitals.
