The eminent physician, Sir Richard Quain, graduated in medicine from University College London in 1840. In 1860, he was nominated by the Queen to the senate of the University of London, one of many august positions held. Quain was a leading figure in establishing the University of London's pathological research centre, the Brown Institution. This signed and dated bust is on a white marble plinth.
