This portrait depicts the Reverend Edmund Sibson dressed in a dark suit, seated at a table with his legs crossed and resting his left hand on a large book.

Sibson was the first Vicar of St Thomas's in Ashton-in-Makerfield and this portrait was painted to order by William Beamont (1797–1889), first mayor of Warrington and a local philanthropist.
