Arthur James Tait was educated at the Merchant Taylors’ School in London and St John’s College, Cambridge. He studied for ordination at Ridley Hall in 1896, later becoming Principal of St Aidan’s College, Birkenhead before returning to Ridley as Principal in 1908. He left Ridley Hall in 1927 to take up a Residentiary Canonry in Peterborough Cathedral.
