Part of the Dens Road environmental improvement works commenced in 1989. The artist states: 'Following the demolition of a traditional spinning mill and the landscaping of the site, the local council wanted to protect the planting by closing off the area with a set of railings. I wanted the design to refer to the history of the site and designed the railings to include within their panels convex and concave spars that created a feeling of movement along their length'.
