A mythological scene from Ovid, depicting Aphrodite breathing life into the statue of Galatea. A naked statue of Galatea is on the tall, carved pedestal to the left, with Aphrodite hovering on a cloud in the centre, holding a large butterfly above the statue's head. Cupid follows her to the right, aiming his bow and arrow at the statue. Pygmalion, King of Cyprus, stands to the right, gazing up at the statue, his hands raised in amazement.
