View of Pulteney Bridge, Bath, seen from downstream of the wier, looking up the river towards the town. The paintwork is in characteristic thick impasto which builds up texture in the painting. There are figures on the bank of the river to the right of the painting, two groups walking across the verge and another group sitting on the grass. The colours are largely naturalistic with a deep blue sky, sandstone-coloured buildings and a highly reflective water surface showing reflections of the cityscape. An idyllic scene depicting Bath in high sunshine using the artists characteristic textured manner of painting.
