A two-thirds life-size statue of Psyche. In the tale, Psyche disobeys Cupid's instructions, and he deserts her. Rather than depicting the girl's distress, violently described by Apuleius, Theed represents her contemplating her loss lightly cradling the bow left behind by Cupid as he fled.

Subsequently shown in the Royal Academy in 1845.
